Warner Bros. Television, SideCar Content Accelerator and Amblin Television have received a pilot order from Fox for an "Untitled Film Reenactment Project" with Sarah Watson writing, Lauren Shuler Donner and Richard Donner serving as executive producers, and Greg Motolla (Superbad) directing.
The show sees Stella Cooper—after failing to make it in New York and carrying a heavy secret with her—returning to her distressed automotive hometown to substitute teach. She finds inspiration, hope and ultimately salvation when she agrees to help three students who are pursuing their filmmaking dreams by putting on an impossibly ambitious shot-for-shot remake of one of the students' favorite movies: The Goonies, the 1985 fan classic from Amblin Entertainment, which was directed by Richard Donner. Over the course of the season, the students' passion will inspire a town in desperate need of hope in this love letter to the power of cinema, storytelling and dreams.
Sarah Watson is the creator of the Freeform series The Bold Type, which is currently on its fourth season. Previously, she was a writer and executive producer of the critically acclaimed NBC drama Parenthood. Watson’s debut novel, Most Likely, will be published on March 10 by Poppy/Little Brown as part of a two-book deal and is set up at Amazon as a series.
