Theatrical Trailer
Real Steel
Release Date: October 7, 2011
Enter the not-so-distant future where boxing has gone high-tech—2,000 pound, eight-foot-tall steel robots have taken over the ring. Starring Hugh Jackson as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter turned small-time promoter, Real Steel is a riveting, white-knuckle action ride that will leave you cheering.
When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) and technical wiz Bailey Tallet (Evangeline Lilly) to rebuild and train a championship contender from the remains of an early-gen robot named Atom. As the stakes in the thrill-packed arena are raised with the chance at a fight in the World Robot Boxing Championship, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last inspirational adventure filled with heart and soul.
Real Steel is based on the short story, "Steel," written by legendary genre author and screenwriter Richard Matheson (Duel, Amazing Stories). Previously adapted in 1963 for an episode of Rod Serling's original The Twilight Zone television series, DreamWorks Pictures' Real Steel reimagines Matheson's tale on a big scale with state-of-the-art computer-generated digital effects wrapped around a story of a father and son reuniting and strengthening bonds formerly broken.
The film is directed and produced by Shawn Levy, from a screenplay by John Gatins. Steven Spielberg, Robert Zemeckis and Steve Starkey executive produced the film.
