Based on the 1988 Amblin Entertainment animated feature directed by Don Bluth (An American Tail) and presented by George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, The Land Before Time television series carried on the popular prehistoric stories of dinosaur Littlefoot and pals—Ducky, Petrie, Cera, Spike, Ruby, and Chomper. The series, which ran from 2007-2008, featured 26 all-new stories of growing up together in The Great Valley, and the joys and dangers ever-present in the lives of our young gang of seven dinos.

The series was created by veteran animation writer Ford Riley, with directors Scott Heming, Dick Sebast and Charles Grosvenor splitting up duties across the show's run. Judy Freudberg and Tony Geiss, who conceived of the story for the original Land Before Time feature, returned to the series their imaginations helped launch, penning four episodes.
