In this animated television prequel to the original Gremlins, we travel back to 1920s Shanghai to reveal the story of how 10-year-old Sam Wing (future shop owner Mr. Wing in the 1984 movie) met the young mogwai called Gizmo. Along with a teenage street thief named Elle, Sam and Gizmo take a perilous journey through the Chinese countryside, encountering, and sometimes battling, colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. On their quest to return Gizmo to his family and uncover a legendary treasure, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil gremlins.
The talented voice cast includes live-action/animation veterans Ming-Na Wen, James Hong, BD Wong (Jurassic World) Matthew Rhys (The Americans), and Izaac Wang as Sam, A.J. LoCascio as Gizmo and Gabrielle Green as Sam's friend Elle, along with Sandra Oh, Bowen Yang, Randall Park, George Takei and Zach Galligan (Billy Peltzer from the Gremlins movies) in yet undisclosed roles.
Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is produced for HBO Max and the Cartoon Network by Amblin Television in association with Warner Bros. Animation. The series is being written by Tze Chun and executive produced by Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey (The Americans, and the Animaniacs and Amazing Stories revivals) and Sam Register (Animaniacs) with Chun and Brendan Hay serving as co-executive producers. Dan Krall will serve as supervising producer.
GREMLINS: THE WILD BATCH follows Gizmo, Sam, and Elle as they travel from their home in Shanghai to San Francisco, bringing even more magic, mystery and Mogwai mayhem. Hot on the trail of a new brood of evil Mogwai, our heroes journey deep into the American West, coming up against new supernatural creatures and picking up a few mysterious characters along the way.
