Small Time Crooks
Release Date: May 19, 2000
Ray and Frenchy Winkler's bank heist plans may have been a recipe for disaster, but the rise and fall of this half-baked batch of small-time crooks and bumbling burglars is a delectable treat for fans of one of the great writer-director-performers in modern film comedy.
Woody Allen wrote, directed and stars in this romantic farce that follows the misadventures of an ex-con dishwasher (Allen) and his manicurist wife (Tracey Ullman). Their get-rich-quick scheme to rob a bank leaves them rolling in the dough...but not the kind they had in mind. The ensemble cast of Small Time Crooks also includes Tony Darrow, Hugh Grant, George Grizzard, Jon Lovitz, Elaine May, Michael Rapaport and Elaine Stritch.
Jean Doumanian is the producer of Small Time Crooks, marking her eighth collaboration with Woody Allen. The film marked the first collaboration between Allen and DreamWorks Pictures, who distributed the film domestically.
