Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television, Tom Hanks & Gary Goetzman’s Playtone, and Apple TV+ have enlisted for Masters of the Air, an upcoming WWII limited series drama that marks the first series green-lighted with Apple serving as the studio.
Based on the compelling non-fiction book by Donald L. Miller, Masters of the Air follows the true, deeply personal story of an American bomber squadron in World War II who brought the war to Hitler’s doorstep.
Steven Spielberg will executive produce through Amblin Television with co-executive producers Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey, alongside Playtone executive producers Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, and co-executive producer Steven Shareshian.
The series is being written by Band of Brothers alum John Orloff, who is also a co-executive producer. Graham Yost will also serve as a co-executive producer. Spielberg, Hanks and Goetzman previously worked together on the Emmy Award-winning series Band of Brothers and The Pacific.
Masters of the Air will stream exclusively on Apple TV+, a new home for the world’s most creative storytellers, and is the second project for Apple to hail from Spielberg’s Amblin Television in addition to the brand-new Amazing Stories series.
